Before surgery

What preparation involves

Before surgery, you'll complete medical clearance, meet anesthesia, and talk to our team to help you prepare.

Where surgery happens

Two award winning centers in Hartford

Surgery is performed either at Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute at Saint Francis Hospital or Lighthouse Surgery Center. Both facilities specialize in hip and knee replacement surgeries and have publicly available complication rates well below the national average.

Physical therapy

What rehabilitation looks like

Hip. Many patients benefit from physical therapy, which is typically twice a week for 6 weeks starting 2 weeks after surgery. Most recovery occurs within 6–12 weeks, often sooner.

Knee. Outpatient physical therapy begins approximately 2 weeks after surgery. Obtaining good motion is critical. By 6–8 weeks most patients walk comfortably, and full recovery takes about 3 months.
